I just can't start my client face down; I feel like the back is the largest extremity why not end with it? Plus, you're not spreading germs from their feet to their face once you turn them over.
Notice how the therapist lowers herself by bending at the knees and spreading her feet. Very little bending at the waist and very little twisting of the spine; hips and shoulders remain fairly square to each other. This is terrific athletic form, protecting from injury the income generating business asset that is her body.

this is probably one of the best and most beautifully put together swedish massage routines i have come by on youtube. The passion and talent is all there. Thanks so much for sharing this, as it is very helpful for all of us massage therapists out there !!
My boss at my first job out of massage school was so greedy that she would book us back to back for 8 hours straight-no lunch break, and only a 15-minute buffer between appointments to change the sheets (and occasionally, even that was taken away). I told her repeatedly that this is very physical work and that a therapist can damage herself by doing that kind of intensely physical work for so many hours. When it became clear that she did not care, I finally quit.
I love that you stay hands on at all times. I've only ever gotten a massage, not been the masseuse, but i can say that it's mildly startling if they take their hands off completely and then suddenly touch again!
Currently a student at this school for massage therapist training and this video has helped me so much. Absolutely beautiful massage flow. Thank you! ❤❤
I took conditioning education at this school for massage therapy, and this therapist was my partner (owner of the school I believe). She has a heart of gold; Brilliant compassionate therapist. ❤️
About time I see someone else using the oil holder the right way… and also always having 1 hand on client. I dislike seeing when they stop touching the body to reach for massage oil / cream. Love your technics
As a massage therapist of 20 years (I'm also certified and licensed in other areas) I noticed she used her thumbs A LOT. I don't recommend it. You'll definitely be injured quickly and your massage career short-lived.
Hi. I'm interested in becoming a massage therapist and in the process of signing up for a course to become certified. Great tips in the comments but I was wondering are you advising to use more palm than thumbs? Just curious as I'm coming from 10 years of being a truck driver seeking helpful tips
@@mac_fresh8675 The question is what your patient needs or client wants and then you make a protocol of massage. If you are going to deconstract a muscle you use the thumbs. You can tell this is not a Swedish massage by the height of the massage table and in fact, Taiwanese massage uses this height and that is so because the therapist works with his/her own weight. I haven't watched the whole video but she doesn't have any idea what a Swedish massage is! Besides she applies pretty bad chiropractic techniques.
@@karin6927yeah i was confused with the stripping and specific area work. swedish is full body, light to medium pressure, and she's doing deep tissue and ortho work mixed in. it's a decent massage but it isn't a pure Swedish

I hope you don’t mind me offering a couple tips. If this is the first time you’re getting a massage. Please don’t let the massage therapist start chitchatting for more than a minute because it will defeat the whole purpose of your session and your body won’t be able to release completely if there’s conversation. Also, let your therapist know if the pressure is too light or too firm. A good therapist will never take offense when you’re telling them what you want because you should have the best massage possible. I hope you enjoy your massage.!
Thank you for sharing this; beautifully done! And thank you for sharing your experience about energy , so important to be aware of this exchange . I am returning to massage after a long absence so this review has been perfect! Body mechanics, meditative mindset and respect !
One mistake that's easily ignored is how when the top sheet is lifted to adjust for that next area to be massage, it's lifted too high. This causes an air pocket to be trapped which is inherently cool so when it's put down quickly that air gets released, chilling a particular segment of the body
How would one therapist keep their energy / head up when clients seem to not express their appreciation (tips) after giving them your effort and energy?? I always try to give me best to every client but some just don’t seem to appreciate it through my view
What kind of setting is your workplace? If you are a sole practitioner, charge what you think you’re worth and give your all to the client without worrying whether you’re going to get more on top of that. If you’re working for somebody else, don’t settle for low wages-again, base pay and commission should be what you think you are worth, or move on. As far as the client is concerned, however, your only focus should be on giving them such a good massage that they want to keep coming back. Tips are gravy-they’re always welcome, but they’re not what we do this for.
Hi, I just enrolled myself to massage course for Swedish and Thai full body massage. I'm still very new and really try to figure out how are the techniques should be with the massage bed and the one that I learn to massage on the floor. This video will be great but it take from too far and the video was blocked by the body 😅 of the therapist and can't really hear. May I know where is this school please?
So how do you divide time of 50min throughout body. Always same or depend on client ? If Some people like to have more on back than feet do you cut time for leg and spend more time at back?
Before you massage you’ll want to ask what area(s) would you like me to focus on today? And usually it will be back and some will say another part like feet shoulders or neck. It definitely depends on the client but asking that question really helps you figure out how to divide your time up!
@@sabrinanicholas8481 Do you always start with prone? Or do you decide acording to clients needs? (by the way, I passed Mblex this week and after getting lisence, I will be working at chiropractic office as LMP ) This video is so helpful to see how 50min massage is flowing.
When you learn the art of proper body mechanics you don't have to worry about being in pain while giving message. As a LMT it can be just as much rewarding giving as it is recieving. I'd say give it a shot
My friend is an LMT and he said you have to know proper body mechanics to avoid injury. You can get exhausted though if you're an energy giver and the client is an energy taker.
Proper body positioning/body mechanics is essential so you don’t wear out your body & have a sore back after every session. Also, don’t realize solely on using your thumbs for sessions because eventually you will develop carpal tunnel and other issues using the forearm and open hand is an excellent way to get deeper in the muscle.
Great educational video, but need better camera angles! Sometimes you can only see the back of the MT instead of the technique that is being performed on the client!
I like the idea of what you are trying to show but you cannot see half of what you are doing. Maybe a camera above you subject pointing down at the body would have helped. Your instruction was point on , but video not so much. I thank you for your post. It was very informational.
An excellent product is Biotone Massage Gel. It’s not greasy and glides very well on the body. It also contains oils that are moisturizing to the body. A little goes a long way excellent product!

Nobody is freak or creep on this planet. I was so involved to watch her massaging I even didn't see the student was standing there. Its called being focused and having a goal. Your concentration and motive of watching the video was not on the right time and place.
If he's not a student (with client's permission to obverse) then this is super odd. It doesn't seem like he is a student tho since he keeps coming in and out of the room and just stands back in the corner.
@@kararuthruff9030 there’s multiple students there. She is explaining what she is doing so the students can hear. Probably not enough room behind the camera for everyone to fit over there
I would recommend a Swedish massage before jumping into a deep tissue. A deep tissue massage is an excellent way to work the deeper layers of muscle. However, it can be quite painful for some people & not enjoyable. You can ask the therapist to offer Swedish./deep tissue combo. Be sure to drink plenty of water for 24 hours after your session and avoid alcohol for 24 hours because if you drink alcohol after a massage, all the toxins that are releasing in your body will be re-absorbed that’s why water is essential. ❤
As someone who’s studying to be an RMT, this woman has really poor body mechanics- you shouldn’t be standing on the tip of your foot ever, or using thumbs as much or bending your wrists as over time that will cause your body to deteriorate with repetitive practice. On top of that, if you’re leaning and bending your back that way it’s going to cause back problems as well, you want to always have a straight back and use your legs in Tai chi motion or tornado positioning(lunges) back and forth motion to take away pressure on one end of your legs and back. If you have to reach the way she does towards bottom of her back you’re better off standing next to the muscle you’re trying to massage than to extend and bend to reach over.
Pretty sure she was giving a demonstration or teaching a class so that's why the camera wasn't up against the client cuz people needed to see what she was doing and she needed to show the people what she was doing and needed to do it right so if she needed to stand in front of the camera she didn't care to block the video as the demo was more important
I understand from a LMT point of view what you’re trying to demonstrate but your body mechanics are slightly off and your hair touched the clients back which is a BIG NO NO! I hope you’re doing much better now seeing that this video was posted 3 years ago.
